Our Lead Course is designed for more experienced climbers looking to advance their skills and try a new form of climbing. Restricted to groups of 3-4.

You will need the equipment listed below in order to take this course:

  • 1 x Dynamic Rope (40 meter minimum)
  • 1 x Petzl Grigri
  • 1 x Locking Carabiner

All of these items are available at Basecamp for purchase.

What to expect?

Our Lead Course is designed for more experienced climbers, 16 years and older, looking to advance their skills and try a new form of climbing.

Lessons will run as in one of two ways:

  1. Tuesdays from 7-10pm (2 sessions/two consecutive weeks)
  2. Thursday from 7-10pm (2 sessions/two consecutive weeks)
  • Lessons run based on participants availability and weight – within 30 lbs of each other.
  • Climbers do not need a partner to sign up. We will group you with other climbers.
  • Does not require Day Pass/ 10 x Day Pass (Punch Card) for day of lesson.
  • Participants need Grigri, locking carabiner and minimum 40 M dynamic rope.
  • Lesson group maximum 4 participants.
  • Must be 16+ years old to participate.

If you are already trained in Lead climbing and would like to take a test we recommend calling ahead of time to see if there is a staff member available to administer the test. While we try to keep someone on site at all times who can administer a test, there is no guarantee. A $20 deposit is taken before the test and will be returned upon a complete pass of the test. The maximum weight difference for Leaders allowed in the facility is 50 lbs. *Please note, we currently do not allow the use of the Edelride Ohm device for leading.

Technique classes are designed to provide climbers with the basic skills they need in a slightly small group setting. These classes are perfect for those looking for a friendly and non intimidating way to build their foundation in rock climbing.

Handholds 101

“How do I hold that round thing? My fingers don’t fit and I can’t possibly pull myself up on that sprinkle on the wall!” Don’t worry, you’ll learn to get there with this class. Identifying holds and knowing how to grip there is an integral part of everyone’s climbing experience and a great place to start if you’re new to climbing.

Footwork 101

Listen very carefully to the sounds of your favourite climber…chances are, their feet are not making a single sound, simply dancing delicately and precisely up the wall. Understanding how and where to place your feet while climbing is crucial to success. This class will focus on how to generate power and precision by conscientiously and carefully placing your feet in the best way.

Overhanging Climbing 101

Have you had your arms ache just looking at the overhanging walls? Ever watched someone gracefully make their way to the top, moving like some sort of ballet dancer? You too, can be a graceful, climbing gazelle with this class on climbing overhangs effectively. Learn how to conquer even the most intimidating overhangs without breaking (as much of) a sweat.
